Government Affairs

The Government Affairs committee keeps the membership informed of HR-relevant legislative activity on the state and federal levels. We encourage involvement in and education on public policy issues that may impact the day-to-day tasks and responsibilities of HR professionals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Track information in both the Nebraska Unicameral and the Iowa Legislature

  • Provide updates on state and federal legislation

  • Facilitate educational morning sessions and webinars

  • Coordinate Day in the District in Lincoln (spring)

  • Encourage membership to testify on pending legislation that impacts their company and/or industry

  • Initiate letter writing, email and phone campaigns to our Elected Officials

CHAPTER PROGRAM

The committee hosts an annual Chapter Program worth HR credit towards re-certification through SHRM and HRCI®.

GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS MORNING SESSIONS

Government affairs update sessions include a 1.5 hour morning session to inform members of HR-relevant legislative activity on the state and federal levels.  Businesses and organizations are invited to sponsor these sessions.

LEGISLATIVE UPDATES

The legislative landscape, state and federal, is constantly changing and evolving.  Stay up-to-date with legislative updates provided by the Government Affairs Committee.  Updates can be found in the Committee Group once logged in as a HRAM Member.

SHRM ADVOCACY TEAM

The SHRM Advocacy Team has been developed by SHRM Government Affairs as a way to assist HR Advocates — professionals like you — in making their voices heard on public policy issues impacting the workplace. It’s time that policymakers — both in Washington and in state capitals across the country — understand the role HR plays in today’s workplace. The SHRM Advocacy Team is a crucial component of SHRM’s advocacy efforts, and works with you to advance the interests of the HR profession at both the federal and state levels. As a member of the SHRM Advocacy Team, you will join the ranks of other HR Advocates committed to moving the HR profession forward, and be the voice of our profession.
