About Us
Human Resource Association of the Midlands (HRAM) is an organization whose members are human resource professionals in the Omaha/Council Bluffs metropolitan area. It is the local affiliated chapter of Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), which is the leading voice of the human resource profession, representing the interests of more than 250,000 professional and student members nationwide. From a founding group of nine, HRAM has grown to over 1100 members representing over 375 employers. Classified as a "super-mega" chapter, HRAM is one of the largest SHRM chapters in the United States, a remarkable accomplishment for an organization located in a metropolitan area of its size.
The Association was organized in 1948 to give personnel administrators a clearinghouse for the exchange of information and ideas. It was originally known as the Personnel Association of Omaha (PAO). The name was changed to the Personnel Association of the Midlands (PAM) to reflect the broadening geographic area represented by our membership. In 1958, the Association joined with other professionals across the nation when it became associated with the national organization, known at the time as the American Society of Personnel Administrators (ASPA). On September 1, 1989, ASPA changed its name to the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). On January 1, 1990, the Personnel Association of the Midlands (PAM) changed its name to the Human Resource Association of the Midlands (HRAM). This change was made to more accurately reflect the human resource profession and to maintain our identity with the national chapter.
HRAM has adopted SHRM's Code of Ethical and Professional Standards in Human Resource Management, updated November 16, 2007.
The mission of the Human Resource Association of the Midlands is to provide its members a comprehensive understanding and appreciation of human capital management. Through educational, developmental and professional interactive forums, HRAM serves the needs of businesses in the greater Omaha metropolitan community.
HRAM's bylaws, financials, full board meeting minutes, and budget information are available upon request to our members. Contact HRAM at 402.932.1007 or staff@hram.org.
HRAM offers numerous benefits to members each year including discounted rates on monthly meetings and technical sessions, an online directory of HRAM members, an annual wage/salary & benefit survey, HR only resume/career posting services, and professional development and HR certification prep courses to name a few.
